A SERIES of earthquakes have wreaked havoc on the island of Lombok, claiming hundreds of lives and flattening whole villages.
But where is the Indonesian holiday destination and why is it so prone to earthquakes? Here’s what we know.

Where is Lombok?
The Indonesian island lies east of Bali and west of Sumbawa, part of the Lesser Sunda island chain.
It measures around 1,700 sq miles and is home to around 3.5million residents.
The provincial capital and largest city on the island is Mataram.
