Transfer Deadline Day: Why Does The Window Close At 5pm Rather Than 11pm Today?

DEADLINE DAY is almost here and this season will be held before the start of the Premier League.

With the window about to slam shut, there won’t be the traditional countdown to midnight and the bongs of Big Ben – as deals will have to be done by 5pm.

Why is the transfer deadline at 5pm?

THIS summer’s window opened early on May 17 and as a result will shut on August 9.

It’s been moved to create stability going into the new season, with club’s able to finalise their squads without the fear of a domestic rival putting in late bids for their stars.

That does mean however that sides can SELL their stars abroad all the way up to August 31.

The window closes at 5pm to allow players signed on deadline day by Premier League sides to be registered in time for the new season.

Fifa rules dictate the window must be open for 12 weeks and so far we have seen some huge spending, with Alisson heading to Liverpool for £69million and Fred to Old Trafford for £61m.
