Fulham Sign Atletico Madrid Striker Luciano Vietto On Season-long Loan With Option To Buy

FULHAM have signed Atletico Madrid striker Luciano Vietto on a season-long loan with a view to a permanent move.

Vietto told fulhamfc.com: “I’m very happy to come to the Club and sign. I’m very excited to get started with the team tomorrow.”

The Cottagers have also snapped up Sevilla goalkeeper Sergio Rico on a loan deal.

Vietto, 24, is deemed as surplus to requirements by Diego Simeone, and was shipped off on loan to Valencia last campaign.

He impressed at the Mestalla – netting five goals in 18 La Liga games – helping Marcelino’s men to fourth spot in the Spanish top-flight.

But his performances have failed to catch the attention of Simeone – despite also scoring against Arsenal in the International Champions Cup last month.

Vietto joined Atletico for £18million in 2015, after banging in 20 goals in 48 games for Villarreal.

But goals have been hard to come by for the ex-Racing Club ace at Madrid – scoring just four times in 38 games.

However, he did enjoy a successful loan spell at Sevilla during the 2016-17 season – finding the back of the net on ten occasions – despite playing second-fiddle to Wissam Ben Yedder up top.

And he could link up with his former Red and Whites team-mate Rico at Craven Cottage.

The 24-year-old has racked up at least 37 appearances a season since making his debut for the club during the 2014-15 campaign.

Sevilla have already snapped up shot-stopper Tomas Vaclik from Basel, with the Czech Republic international to be the No 1 goalkeeper at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium.

Speaking of his move, Rico said: “I’m very happy, really pleased to have signed for the oldest club in the Premier League.

“I’m excited to start training, to meet all my teammates and, above all, to enjoy the season that starts this Saturday.”
