A new leak may have shed some light on the PS5 reveal and release date.

The same Reddit source who correctly broke the news about Sony dropping out of E3 2019 is back with an even bigger bombshell.

According to Reddit user RuthenicCookie4, Sony dropped out of E3 to concentrate on the PS5.

Sony will host a small PS5 reveal in mid-2019, before showcasing the console in full at the returning PlayStation Experience (PSX) event.

Furthermore, it’s said that most studios are in possession of a PS5 dev kit, which is described as a monster.

While the post acknowledges that things may change, this would certainly explain why Sony dropped out of E3.

With previous PSX events taking place in December, it would also seemingly put the PS5 on course for a 2020 release date.

A 2020 release date would give Sony a chance to release its final set of PS4 exclusives.

This includes The Last of Us 2, Media Molecule’s Dreams and Ghost of Tsushima.

The news comes after Sony filed a patent for a new type of DualShock controller, believed to be for the PS5.

Filed on October 16, the controller shares similarities with the DualShock, only this one features a touchscreen instead of a trackpad.

Square Enix is also said to be working on a brand new game for the PS5.

That’s according to the LinkedIn page of a Square Enix employee, who describes the game as a triple-A release.

Spotted by Gematsu, the page belongs to a a 3D character modeller employed by the Square Enix-owned Luminous Productions.

Square Enix recently confirmed that Luminous Productions was working on a brand new triple-A game, although this is the first time it’s been mentioned for PS5.
