A police officer has been stabbed whereas on obligation exterior a railway station in east London.

The male officer was approached by a suspect exterior Ilford Station and attacked with a knife, British Transport Police stated.

He was taken to hospital for therapy for his accidents, which aren’t thought to life-threatening.

Witnesses described seeing the officer exterior the station because it was placed on “full lockdown”.

One other tweeted: “At Ilford station… simply come exterior and all I see is somebody on the ground, blood and police.”

Footage shared on social media confirmed a person being restrained on the ground as extra officers arrived.

A person has been arrested in reference to the incident.

British Transport Police stated: “Officers are interesting for data after a BTP police officer was stabbed exterior Ilford Station.

“Round 9.45pm this night (Friday) a male officer was approached while on obligation exterior Ilford Station and was attacked with a knife.

“The London Ambulance Service has taken the officer to hospital, the place he’s being handled for his accidents, which aren’t considered life threatening.

“A person has been arrested.”

Counter-terrorism police aren’t considered concerned at this stage.

The incident comes amid issues of a rise in assaults on cops amid an increase in violent crime throughout London.
